Bart’s Bash is the World’s largest sailing event that is run by sailing clubs all around the world on behalf of The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation.
The first Bart’s Bash event saw over 700 sailing clubs from over 68 different countries take part each in their own individual Bart’s Bash race at their location, helping to encourage more people to get on the water and enjoying a day’s sailing.
On September 20th 2015 Tees & Hartlepool Yacht Club www.thyc.org.uk would like to invite you to join them and participate in Bart’s Bash, the global sailing event in memory of Olympic gold medallist and America’s Cup sailor, Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson.
To celebrate the day there will be racing at 11:00, followed by live music and a bouncy castle during Sunday afternoon, Mandy will be serving up lunches as usual so why not bring the family and join in the fun, Girl group “the Seatones” will be singing in the lounge from 2pm.
The event will see thousands of people from across the world joining the likes of America’s Cup sailors Sir Ben Ainslie, Jimmy Spithill and Iain Percy who all took part in the inaugural event in 2014.
Bart’s Bash in 2014 saw over 30,000 people sail in over 50 countries with 552 clubs holding an event. The event set a Guinness World Record for the largest sailing race in 24 hours which was announced in Jan 2015.
So far the 2015 event has 403 venues signed up across 50 countries, and yes we are one of them! Let’s make this a fantastic 1st year for THYC, the main aim is to get as many boats out on the water for one single race, this will include the Cruisers and many others! all racing on the same course for our new trophy honoured in the name of the late John Barry Hughes, kindly donated by our very own Phillip Hope. We also may have the possibility of the race being safety assisted/witnessed by Hartlepool RNLI!!! If the thought of getting into the Guinness Record books was not enough..
